"When planning for a year, plant corn. When planning for a decade, plant trees. When planning for life, train and educate people." Chinese Proverb
I wish to extend a warm welcome to you on behalf of the International School of Como. In our school everyone is a 'learner' and learning is the focus of all decisions and activities as our aim is to encourage the 'habit of excellence'.
In all my years as an educator, I have come to a simple conclusion, the key to school success is love and passion for what we believe, say and do. I do believe that learning is what really matters in life and it has to lead to excellence, happiness and success, the rest will come naturally. The cognitive and academic results will be achieved, for sure, as children will work harder and do things for the people they love and trust.
The students are the most precious resource within our community and we need to nurture them by providing the very best education possible. We believe that this means offering a vibrant, innovative and rigorous education, aligned with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programmes and soon Diploma Programme, together with the academic standards of the Italian ‘Programmi Ministeriali’. The International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum inspires and challenges our students to develop a love of learning, and ensures that they have the knowledge, skills and values to cope with a rapidly changing and sometimes turbulent world. We aim to educate international minds, hearts and souls.
As part of our ‘community of learners’, your children will experience a warm and welcoming environment, and gain a sense of confidence from the caring and professional staff working here at the school. Our teachers have a special way of relating to the students, their families and each other. They convey compassion, understanding, respect, interest, and appreciation as well as holding high expectations and demonstrating active participation in each child’s education.
Walk through our school and you will sense the feeling of belonging. This is another truth I have gained as a passionate educator. “Belonging” is another natural and basic need. At IS Como we aim to give each child a place where trust, safety, ownership and stability are guaranteed.
I welcome you not only to look through our website, but to visit our school, attend a class, talk to students, parents and teachers, and experience the spirit of our happy family school.
In 2002 a group of parents were looking to provide an international education for their children and the families in the Como area. With a great deal of research and determination, they decided to open the International School of Como and they invited educators, teachers and many other experts from the International School of Milan to share in the development of this great initiative. During its first 14 years, IS Como has grown to stand for excellence and has contributed to the expansion of international education in Northern Italy, as one of the over 4 500 IB schools located worldwide.
"These are schools that share a common philosophy: a commitment to high standards of education, values and programmes that challenge students to excel in their studies, and encourage both personal and academic achievement."
Since 2006, IS Como has been accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO - www.ibo.org) for its Primary Years Programme (PYP). The school has well-established classes in the Early Years (Kindergarten, Transition and Grade 1 for children aged 2 to 5) and Elementary School (for children aged 6 to 11). In 2009 the International School of Como opened its Middle School and in 2014 received the accreditation for the Middle Years Programme (IB MYP). Since 2016/2017 High School was opened and candidacy for the Diploma Programme started.
IS Como aspires to create a community where learning is the central driving factor of a journey in which our students need to become ethical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, community-minded and individuals of action on the world stage.

EARLY YEARS & PRIMARY
IS Como is an authorised IB PYP School. The Primary Years Programme (PYP) includes Early Years (aged 3-5) and Elementary (aged 5-11). Children aged 2 are welcome and are encouraged to join our Pre-Kindergarten class as this is an important introduction and building block to the PYP.
IS Como Middle School offers an IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) which is the next step in the IB continuum of international education. We currently cover ages 11-16/MYP 1-4. IS Como has recently completed the MYP arriving to MYP 5 and will therefore offer the last two years of the internationally recognised IB Diploma Programme (IB DP).
IS Como has made a commitment to grow and develop the school organically all the way through High School by offering the completion of the Middle Years Programme, MYP 4&5 (aged 14-16) from 2016-2018 and completing the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) by 2020 for students aged 16 to 18 years.
