Welcome to the International School of Milan. Although we are the longest established international school here in Milan, at our school you will find the most progressive thinking linked to the strong academic standards that have served the international and Italian communities in Milan for over 50 years. We are confident that our ethos, linked to achievement and opportunity for all, will enable your children to become truly confident and ready to take their place in the world as the young leaders of tomorrow.
The International School of Milan is proud of its position in the city as the premier international IB school in terms of its curriculum and outlook and is renowned for its high educational standards and caring learning environment. We are also an international community with over 50 nationalities and a student body that is proud to belong to our school community and enthusiastic about the learning they take part in.
Our International Baccalaureate curriculum (which runs throughout all years) is a truly international one and is a perfect fit to suit the needs of all our students. Our PYP, MYP and IB Diploma programmes thoroughly prepare our students for further study all around the world, including at some of the world’s leading universities.
Our dedicated, international and skilled teaching body ensures that all students achieve highly at the school regardless of their ability. Their desire to challenge students is based upon a belief founded upon a growth mindset, ensuring that the focus is on every student achieving beyond what a school might ‘normally expect’. In short, we believe your son or daughter can achieve more and be happier with us here at IS Milan.
We are certain that you will see IS Milan as a place where learning is celebrated and where each of our students are valued and challenged to succeed.
Please pay us a visit to find out more about our wonderful school. The staff and I look forward to welcoming you.
Founded in 1958 by Mr. and Mrs. Formiga, the International School of Milan is the oldest international school in the city. Today, it has almost 1000 students of 68 different nationalities with a staff complement of 130 teachers. Designed for student-user-friendliness, the IS Milan campus is notable for its innovative, sustainable and functional architecture. Not just a school, but the largest campus in Italy, and a place where there is a tangible sense of the international spirit we want to support.
“We train the hearts and minds of students from 3 to 18 years of age. Our stimulating, multicultural learning environment encourages free thought, cultivates self-confidence and promotes tolerance and moral integrity.”
The modern campus, inaugurated in September 2013, is only a few kilometres from the centre of Milan, in the Municipality of Baranzate. Its comprehensive school bus services (including a door-to-door option) enables students to reach the school easily and safely every day from all over Milan.
In our fantastic campus, our students have access to all of the following:
• Well equipped laboratories for scientific and IT activities; • 40 thousand volumes available in 3 libraries; • A theatre that seats 350; • An auditorium; • Art workshops; • Dedicated music areas (with practice rooms); • A multifunctional gymnasium; • An indoor swimming-pool; • A coffee bar, kitchen (with on-site chef) and canteen; • Ample spaces and green areas for all sorts of activities; • External and underground parking.
An IB (International Baccalaureate) education provides the opportunities to develop our children in so many ways beyond a more rigid curriculum. In addition, it provides a both disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding that meet rigorous standards set by institutions of higher learning around the world. IB programmes offer curriculum frameworks and courses that are broad and balanced, conceptual and connected. All of our schools understand and engage with group dynamics, innovative teaching techniques and ways of working that are reflected upon and adapted continuously for the benefit of all the students.

HIGH SCHOOL & IB DIPLOMA
EARLY YEARS & PRIMARY
The Early Years section takes students aged 2.5 to 5, in a structure that meets all their needs, from physical and emotional growth to learning, in a quiet and pleasant environment, avant-garde and eco-sustainable.
Students aged 3 to 11 learn through the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organisation. This offers a rich, challenging and stimulating curriculum designed to generate an enthusiasm for learning and value it as a life-long process.
Children aged 11-16 follow the Middle Years Programme which offers an educational approach that embraces yet transcends traditional school subjects.
HIGH SCHOOL & IB DIPLOMA
There are two distinct phases of High School, each lasting two full years. In Grades 10-11, students work towards completion of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). Most of our students aim for the full IB Diploma, which is recognised by universities all over the world.
