The International School of Siena opened in 2010 and has developed and grown considerably during the subsequent years. We are an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and our primary school hosts children between 3 and 11 years old whilst our Middle School continues to develop as we grow by a grade level each school year, currently with students up to 15 years old. We are already a candidate school for the IB Diploma Programme, which incorporates the pre-university qualification for 16 to 19 year olds and we will begin to deliver the IB Diploma Programme from September 2019.
Learning at IS Siena is exciting and engaging, as students strive for excellence in a climate that is caring and responsive to individual needs and goals. Our global vision is coordinated by an outstanding team of educational leaders and implemented by our highly skilled and dedicated professional staff. We are currently based in a beautiful 17th century villa in the countryside outside of the city of Siena. We await the completion of the construction of our new school building with amazing additional facilities including science laboratories, spacious indoor gym, drama studio, music and art rooms.
Learning at the International School of Siena is an international experience with students from around 25 nationalities. It leads to a perception of the world that merges understanding of our global context with the development of skills and attitudes that young people require to participate fully in the world of tomorrow, both national and global citizens. At the same time, we deeply appreciate the diversity of mother-tongue languages of our school community and aim to celebrate our diversity as well as supporting each student to appreciate our host country of Italy and become fully bilingual in English and Italian. We also prepare our Italian students to sit their Quinta Elementare and Terza Media examinations with us and they consistently achieve excellent results. Furthermore, our culminating programme, the IB Diploma Programme, will have legal equivalence to the Maturità.
We are a welcoming school community in which parents, students and staff work together to provide a stimulating programme, which engages each child in an inquiry based environment. Our students are committed and involved in the life of the school as they enjoy a great sense of community, high standards of teaching and learning and our supportive and well-informed parent body which combine to make our school so special. Each student from Kindergarten to Grade 10 is offered two after school co-curricular activities provided by school staff, one physical activity focused and one other option encompassing areas such as Art, Drama, Music and Coding and Robotics.
Villa Parigini is about 6 km from Siena in the small, unpolluted township of Basciano. A historical location of great beauty, it hosts a school that is unique of its kind. International and multicultural, every day it welcomes 90 students of 15 different nationalities.
“We’re a small school with an international centre. Our unique and challenging educational environment hosts children from three years of age, and English is promoted as our primary language.”
Since 2010, we have offered top quality education, availing ourselves of the IB Programmes:
The fascinating architectural backdrop of IS Siena creates a pleasant environment. Its extensive gardens are available for recreational activities, sports and groups studying in the open air. There is a canteen service and during the afternoons a rich programme of after-school activities are on offer.
An IB education provides opportunities to develop both disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding that meet rigorous standards set by institutions of higher learning around the world. IB programmes offer curriculum frameworks and courses that are broad and balanced, conceptual and connected. The IS Group has an excellent track record in using group dynamics, innovative teaching techniques and tools that are updated continuously.
The Early Years programme take students aged 2.5 to 5, in a structure that satisfies all the children’s needs: from physical and emotional growth to learning, in a tranquil, pleasant environment, state-of-the-art and eco-sustainable.
From the age of 2.5 to 11, students at the International School of Siena follow the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP), a programme based on inquiry which places the child at the centre of the learning process, enabling him/her to acquire all the concepts proposed. In an active and stimulating study environment, our students face up to significant themes and subjects.
The Middle School follows the Middle Years Programme (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). The MYP curriculum includes eight subject groups and provides a broad, balanced education for students aged 11 to 16 years. It provides a learning structure that encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers.
