Founded in 1958, the International School of Milan is the oldest international school in the city. Today, it has almost 1000 students of 68 different nationalities with a staff complement of 130 teachers. Designed for student-user-friendliness, the IS Milan campus is notable for its innovative, sustainable and functional architecture. Not just a school, but the largest campus in Italy, and a place where there is a tangible sense of the international spirit we want to support.
“We train the hearts and minds of students from 2 to 18 years of age. Our stimulating, multicultural learning environment encourages free thought, cultivates self-confidence and promotes tolerance and moral integrity.”
The modern campus, inaugurated in September 2013, is only a few kilometres from the centre of Milan, in the Municipality of Baranzate. Its comprehensive school bus services (including a door-to-door option) enables students to reach the school easily and safely every day from all over Milan.
An IB (International Baccalaureate) education provides the opportunities to develop our children in so many ways beyond a more rigid curriculum. In addition, it provides a both disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding that meet rigorous standards set by institutions of higher learning around the world. IB programmes offer curriculum frameworks and courses that are broad and balanced, conceptual and connected. All of our schools understand and engage with group dynamics, innovative teaching techniques and ways of working that are reflected upon and adapted continuously for the benefit of all the students.
The Early Years section takes students aged 2.5 to 5, in a structure that meets all their needs, from physical and emotional growth to learning, in a quiet and pleasant environment, avant-garde and eco-sustainable.
Students aged 3 to 11 learn through the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organisation. This offers a rich, challenging and stimulating curriculum designed to generate an enthusiasm for learning and value it as a life-long process.
Children aged 11-16 follow the Middle Years Programme which offers an educational approach that embraces yet transcends traditional school subjects.
There are two distinct phases of High School, each lasting two full years. In Grades 10-11, students work towards completion of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). Most of our students aim for the full IB Diploma, which is recognised by universities all over the world.
Our new campus, the largest of its kind in Milan, contains the Early Years, Elementary, Middle and High Schools at IS Milan. Accessibility is guaranteed by numerous external public car parks and a large basement with parking places for cars and minibuses.
