The International School of Modena is entering an extremely exciting phase in its history, and I am very proud to have become a part of this special moment. This year the school celebrates its twentieth anniversary as a school, and the tenth anniversary at the beautiful, and ever-improving, Montale campus, deep in the Modena countryside. This year, will also be opening up our state of the art Performing Arts Centre, canteen with internal kitchen, and rooftop sports facilities for Secondary students. Our science laboratories are fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and we also boast carefully designed on-site spaces which support the delivery of our Reggio-Inspired Early Years Curriculum, a superbly stocked library, as well as dedicated studios for visual arts and music.
We have also recently celebrated the excellent IB Diploma results of our first cohort of graduating students, who attained an impressive average of 36 points, including one particular lifelong IS Modena student, who managed to attain the maximum 45 out of 45. Our Italian students are prepared to sit their Quinta Elementare and Terza Media examinations with us, invariably achieving fantastic results. Technology features in our classrooms in a blended approach, adding value to teaching and learning and supporting more traditional methods.
As the first authorized all-through IB school in Emilia-Romagna Region, we at ISModena pride ourselves on the superb quality of our educational provision, which aims to educate the whole child, and where the people who make up our community – teachers, auxiliary staff, students, parents - are as central to a high quality education as the curriculum and the campus. The happiness and well-being of our students lies at the heart of our daily routines, as we help students to learn from their mistakes and to become lifelong learners, who can develop a deep understanding of values such as respect for the person and for the environment Our fantastic team of teachers and coordinators are constantly at the students’ side as they develop their critical capacities and their creative thought in a multicultural, and truly international environment.
We place a strong emphasis on communication, and regular and honest 3-way teacher-student-parent conferences for the ultimate benefit of the student, as we build positive and productive relationships between all stakeholders. Through our Core Values, in conjunction with the IB Learner Profile, our students are encouraged to become international minded, empowered and active citizens, who learn from an early age that they can make a real difference in the world.
Please come and pay us a visit. We are more than happy to show you around!
Adam Brown, Principal
A structure specifically conceived for students and their learning, where pupils can develop a fuller understanding of values such as respect for the person and for the environment. Fundamental principles that will accompany them throughout the pathway of their growth, supported by the IB programmes. The classrooms, spacious and luminous, help to create an involving environment. In addition, a new wing completely dedicated to the IB Diploma Programme has now been added to our school complex.
The Early Years section takes students aged 2 years and 8 months to 5, in spaces dedicated to study and play. Large and luminous, our classrooms help our youngest children in their education and their creative activities.
From the age of 3 to the age of 11, students at the International School of Modena follow the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP), a programme based on inquiry and which places the child at the centre of the learning process, enabling him/her to acquire all the concepts proposed. In an active and stimulating study environment, our students face up to significant themes and subjects. They are encouraged to act, applying what they study and learn, even outside the school in their daily activities.
From the age of 11 to 16, students at the International School of Modena follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP).
The Diploma Programme is an exacting programme of pre-university studies, designed for students aged 16 to 19. The International School of Modena has been offering this course since September 2015, drawing considerably on the experience of our sister school in Milan, which has offered the programme since 1987.
