LEARNING AT IS MONZA

An International Baccalaureate (IB) education provides opportunities to develop both disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding that meet rigorous standards set by institutions of higher learning around the world. IB programmes offer curriculum frameworks and courses that are broad and balanced, conceptual and connected. All IS Group schools have an excellent track record in using group dynamics, innovative teaching techniques and tools that are updated continuously.

EARLY YEARS

Our PYP section is decided into two distinct sections (Early Years for 3 to 5 year olds and Primary School for 6 to 11 year olds), although we ensure a smooth transition from one to the next.

The focus of the curriculum aims to capitalise on these natural dispositions by providing meaningful, authentic transdisciplinary learning experiences in which children can become absorbed, committed and successful.

To complement the above our Early Years section also takes inspiration from the Reggio approach which puts places an important emphasis on the environment as a tool for learning. As such, our Early Years classrooms, dedicated atelier space an playground encourage students to form a strong sense of community in an environment that encourages creativity and thought.

PRIMARY YEARS

Students aged 6 to 11 in the Primary School learn through the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate. This offers a rich, challenging and stimulating curriculum designed to generate an enthusiasm for learning and value it as a life-long process.

Thanks to a very stable and committed faculty, fully trained and experienced in the PYP, we endeavour to ensure the development of a strong foundation of skills, knowledge and understanding while meeting the needs of the individual child. The PYP is founded on the belief that all children are naturally curious and disposed to learning. They are creative, imaginative, energetic and resourceful.

The focus of the curriculum aims to capitalise on these natural dispositions by providing meaningful, authentic transdisciplinary learning experiences in which children can become absorbed, committed and successful.

MIDDLE YEARS

Students aged 11 to 16 follow the IB Middle Years Programme which offers an educational approach that embraces yet transcends traditional school subjects. While studying disciplines form eight subject groups, the MYP accentuates their inter-relatedness and so advances a holistic view of knowledge.

Students are encouraged to develop intercultural awareness along with genuine understanding of their own history and traditions. Language has an important role in developing international mindedness and as a result our students become truly bi- or even tri-lingual, studying English, Italian and Spanish or Mandarin Chinese.

In Grades 10 to 11, students work towards completion of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years programme (MYP). At the end of Grade 11, students receive a MYP credits for all courses taken over the two years.

In Grades 12 and 13, our students take the IB Diploma Programme which is recognised by universities all over the world. The IB Diploma Programme is a rigorous pre-university course of study designed for students in the 16 to 19 age range.

There is a strong emphasis on encouraging students to develop intercultural understanding, open-mindedness, and the attitudes necessary for them to respect and evaluate a range of points of view.
